It was the first domestically produced jeans brand, born in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture in 1960 by Maruo Clothing, a student uniform manufacturer. In other words, BIG JOHN was a pioneer of domestically produced jeans, being the first to make jeans in Japan. At that time, denim fabric could not be produced in Japan, so it was imported from Canton Mills in the United States.
Later, in 1965, the first domestically produced jeans were completed. After much trial and error, BIG JOHN produced Japan's first colored jeans in 1969. BIG JOHN also introduced the bell-bottom jeans, which caused a huge boom.
As the spirit of craftsmanship to always make the best products was passed down from generation to generation, the REGAL philosophy “QUALITY COMES FIRST” was established as the culmination of all these efforts. This philosophy has been passed down to the young staff of today and continues to shine brightly without fading in the slightest.
