As part of our new blog series, we sat down with friends of the store Don, Josh and Andi who shared the stories behind their favourite clothing.

Your Name:
Don (@aculturedblack)

Favourite Liquor Store piece:
Universal Works Jacket

How long have you had the item:
Had this item for well over 9 years I’d say. Bought from you guys of course. UW coming up trumps yet again!

Favourite thing about the item:
I like it because it’s a great staple in my wardrobe. It’s superbly well made, excellent quality and can easily be complimented with other pieces.

A memory you have wearing it:
I have a lot of good memories attached to wearing this item. This may sound odd but perhaps one that springs to mind is when a guy said to me once “I love your ‘vintage’ jacket. Where did you get if from?” I’ve washed it many times - point being he thought it was an authentic collector’s vintage. For me, that’s a compliment to the quality, look and feel of the garment.

How do you like to style it:
Mostly simple layering. One or two pieces underneath, i.e. a t-shirt, road shirt type thing. The sizing sits nicely on my frame and the jacket just so easily does the work itself. Great work by UW. And thanks to you guys at Liquor Store the styling advice.

Favourite Liquor Store piece:
Folk Assembly Drawcord Trouser - Olive

How long have you had the item:
3 years now, I think.

Favourite thing about the item:
I love these trousers, for a start it’s rare to find a pair of off the shelf trousers with a shorter leg (which isn’t cropped) so the fit on them for me is perfect! They’re also the most versatile trouser around - spending most of the year living out of a suitcase I can only carry a compact wardrobe so having pieces like these that can go from being the perfect trouser for travelling whether by train/tour bus or plane just paired with a t-shirt or jumper to throwing on something smarter on top and them being perfectly at home for a night out! They look great with everything and fit like a dream - I never leave for tour without them. Highly recommend! The material is perfectly weighted to be worn all year round! If I was going to recommend a pair of trousers to anyone, it would be a pair of Assembly drawcords…. I have six pairs of assembly drawcords now.

A memory you have wearing it:
I was wearing them when we welcomed our little boy into the world, I don’t think I could think of one to beat that!

How do you like to style it:
I think my favourite way to style them is with my pair of old Red Wings, a white T and my Rust Brown Universal Works Lumber Jacket. More often than not though I wear them when travelling for work, then I would normally wear them with some Birkenstocks and my Service Works hoodie, perfect for a long plane or tour bus journey!

Other honourable mentions:
My Service Works Market Smock in Black - this is the perfect throw on mid layer/outer layer for me when I’m working! Hard wearing, big old pockets and looks cool as! Also not sure if this counts but surely the Liquor Store Tote bag! Always have one in my backpack! Perfect for those impromptu airport purchases or luggage overspills or a beach/pool bag!

Your Name:
Andi Smith

Favourite Liquor Store piece:
It's nothing fancy but I absolutely love my Service Works Smock.

How long have you had the item:
Owned for just over six months (I think).

Favourite thing about the item:
Sometimes you just find an item that's you, it resonates with your personality and matches who you are. For me the Smock is that piece.

A memory you have wearing it:
I purchased this and a few other pieces just before I went to spend a weekend in Belfast. This was my first trip back to Belfast in nearly twenty years. I spent hours and hours revisiting my old haunts. Feeling super comfortable while wearing my Smock was just perfect.

How do you like to style it:
Selvedge denim and Karhu trainers.
