“Denim is a timeless fabric which if worn from it’s dry and unwashed state will develop it’s own character and patina unique to the wearer. No two pairs will ever look the same. as each jean develops particular abrasions, creasing and whiskering, the story of each wearer is indelibly recorded on each pair.”

Combining a meticulous approach to design, a steadfast adherence to traditional crafting methods and the hard earned know-how of a veteran of the denim industry, London based Hawksmill Denim Co is an emerging brand focused on one thing, incredible jeans. With manufacturing in the UK and Europe, Hawksmill cherry pick their premium fabrics from a range of excellent mills including legendary factories from the states, Italy and (the range we stock in-store) Japan. Founded by Fraser Trewick, alumni of the legendary Duffer and in-part responsible for the growth of Nudie Jeans as long-term UK sales representative, Fraser noticed a hole in the market for reasonably priced, responsibly made jeans that he had the means to fill.

Premium denim is a saturated market with plenty of vintage correct options at a range of price points, but it’s unusual for a smaller independent brand to represent such great value. Hawksmill As of SS19, the non selvedge raw denim fabric option is a steal at £99 and the Japanese Selvedge (woven on old-school shuttle looms for a sturdier fabric) sits at the competitive £149. A few details across the range remain consistent, European construction, traditional red selvedge details (on the selvedge options), heavy duty sail cloth pocket, union special chain stitched hem and felled seam construction.

So what are the fit options I hear you ask?

Here’s the breakdown…

With a fitted top block and a tapered leg, the slim tapered fit from Hawksmill is a great option for those that favour a close-cut style. The low rise means the jeans naturally sit just below the waist and the pockets are lowered, giving the fit a contemporary feel.

Arriving in a 14 oz organic raw denim, the Regular Tapered fit is an excellent entry price for those looking to introduce a pair of raws into their rotation. A low to mid rise, it’s comparable to Edwin’s ED-55 fit offering a slightly slimmer leg than Hawksmill’s Loose Tapered option and all for just shy of £99.

The loosest offering from Hawksmill, the Loose Tapered fit is a classic five pocket relaxed jean. Mid length rise and loose tapered leg opening, the minimalist approach to stitch-work allow Hawksmill denim to blur the lines between formal & informal working well dressed up or down. This fit is available in both the organic and Japanese selvedge options.
